چکیده

The Mekong Delta (MKD) produces more than half of the total rice production in Vietnam. In context climate change, Vietnamese government has implemented a development strategy for MKD region to improve quality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. proportion aromatic high-quality is gradually increasing satisfy export market. However, there still an over-reliance on agrochemicals impact overall efficiency major groups not well understood. This study measures (OE) input slacks considered low-emission farming. Using primary survey data from 380 households, super-slack based measure (super-SBM) envelopment analysis (DEA) was employed calculate scores non-radial each farm. results indicated that both (AR) (HR) achieved higher OE autumn-winter (AW) season summer-autumn (SA) season. addition, also increased paddy farms greater two hectares households have cooperative membership practice smart agriculture (CSA). For reduction strategies slacks, it found group should seed density reduced by amounts ranging 29 45 kg/ha. N fertilizer be 33 kg/ha 35 SA AW seasons, respectively. It estimated farming can correspondingly mitigate N2O emissions 62−74.2 kg/km2 64.7−73 Overall, super-SBM model effective simultaneously estimating overuse among fields. ranking “super-efficient” supports restructuring policy establishing AR HR areas export. Among adaptation strategies, CSA techniques smaller irrigation. Low-emission sector favors if are continuously promoted strictly monitored government.

Changes in Social Capital: A Case Study of Collective Rice Farming Practices in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam

This paper describes how the social capital of rice farmers of the Mekong Delta of Vietnam, as manifested in the tradition of collective farming practice, has changed. Collective rice farming persisted for decades, irrespective of critical events that challenged its continuation, due to two key factors: the high need for collective farming to ensure subsistence, and the availability of a closel...

Factors affecting farmers’ adoption of integrated rice–fish farming systems in the Mekong delta, Vietnam

In the Mekong delta, inland fishing and rice production provided a major source of income for rural communities. Since early settlement, the inhabitants have caught fish. Still, fish provides the main source of animal protein in their daily diet (Madan et al. 2005). Fish are caught in flood plains and in rice fields. The wild fish catch has declined since 1970 (Gagauan & Arce 1992), as a result...

Rice Monitoring Using ENVISAT ASAR Data: Preliminary Results of a Case Study in the Mekong River Delta, Vietnam

ABSTRACT: Vietnam is one of the world’s largest rice exporting countries, and the fertile Mekong River Delta at the southern tip of Vietnam accounts for more than half of the country’s rice production. Unfortunately, a large part of rice crop growing time coincides with a rainy season, resulting in a limited number of cloud-free optical remote sensing images for rice monitoring. Synthetic apert...
